Films can make you laugh or cry, they can give you a warm feeling inside, they can provoke thought and they can inspire.
Who’s ever watched Grease and not wanted to sing and dance? And who has ever watched Rocky II and not been inspired to achieve greatness?
With just 48 hours to go before I handed in my dissertation, I felt like I had no hope of success, then I watched this clip of Rocky Balboa on our website and suddenly felt like I couldn’t fail.....
The Rocky II clip reminded me that with a little hard work and determination
anything is possible. I might not have been doing one handed press-ups
in the library, but my keyboard was smoking and suddenly I felt like there
was nothing that could stand in my way.
Similar to Rocky’s quest to achieve greatness in the ring, this reminded
me that a will to achieve comes from inside, and I was going to prove it.
So inspiring was the Rocky montage that within a few hours, I went from
having a modest 3,000 words done, to seeing the path to getting this
thing finished. It was surreal, I felt invincible.
I doubt any other video clip will ever have the same motivational affect
that Rocky pumped through my veins that fateful night in the library,
simply nothing else could come close.
And there it is, three years of blood, sweat and tears, and the overwhelming desire to achieve, just like Rocky’s countless battles in the ring, my own personal battle with my degree is almost KO’d.
