A Wirral girl has beaten 50 other hopefuls to the part of Snow White in this year’s pantomime at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton.
Kate Mellors, 18, from Hoylake, won the lead role in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs after attending open auditions at the theatre. Hopefuls had to sing a ballad, an up-tempo song and read some of the script, with Radio City’s Pete Price, who is playing the part of Muddles, helping to judge the girls.
Kate, who is hoping to get into musical theatre in the future, is excited about playing the part and getting one foot into the world of professional theatre.
The graduate from Liverpool Theatre School, said: “I was absolutely made up when I was told I had the part – I couldn’t believe it. I felt so lucky because there were so many talented girls at the audition.”
Theatre manager Paul Holliday, believes the role is a perfect opportunity to start a professional career, and said that it could well lead the local performer onto future success.
Kate will be starring alongside Pete Price, and other local celebrities including actress and comedienne Pauline Daniels as the Wicked Queen and local comedian Ken Dodd as the voice of the mirror.
Also staring, will be Roy Brandon, Russ Spencer and Caroline Barnes from the Eurovision act Scooch, the Honey Monster and Rock Ferry born actor Adam Curtis.
Kate, an ex West Kirby Grammar School pupil, added: “I am very excited about the show and can’t wait to play a princess – it’s every girl's dream.”
The show will run from 19th December to 10th January. Tickets are now on sale priced at £15 or £13 for concessions.
