Punk trio Redtrack have won the chance of a lifetime to appear in the Liverpool based Soap, Hollyoaks.
The band, who are made up of lead singer Billy Wright, bass player Phil Blake, and drummer Andy Perry, beat stiff competition to win the ‘Hollyoaks Music Show’, which provided unsigned bands with the opportunity to appear in the soap.
Lead singer Billy Wright said: “It was an amazing feeling to hear that we won it! We had a great time filming it and met loads of people through it.”
The competition had an X Factor like format and each band in the competition was mentored by a different Hollyoaks star and viewers could vote for who they wanted to win.
The Essex trio were mentored by Hollie-Jay Bowes, who plays school girl Michaela McQueen in the much loved soap.
Not only is Hollie-Jay Bowes a great actress she is also in a band herself, Genie in The Radiator, and since the show she has recorded a track with Redtrack.
Billy said: “Hollie is so great to work with; she’s a really hard worker. We had some great banter when she came down to record the song “Pretty boy” with us.”
The Southend act has not yet fully recovered from their experience of appearing in the soap, which was watched by over 1 million viewers when the episode was aired last week on February 16th.
Billy told us: “The experience was out of this world. Filming the episode and watching it back was even cooler. A massive number of people love Hollyoaks, so when we tell people that we won the competition all we get is good reactions.”
Even after all their success on Hollyoaks, Redtrack, are still an unsigned band, but they haven’t given up hope on a record deal just yet.
“We’re speaking to some major labels in the US at the moment, but we are currently concentrating on touring for the next 6 months. We are just trying to make our fan base as big as possible. Winning the Hollyoaks Music Show has definitely helped us, so thank you to everyone that voted. I’m really hoping to play in Liverpool soon.”
