The New Village Fete brings a bit of boho chic to Liverpool’s vintage scene as local artists bring their crafts to the table.
The monthly fashion and craft market displays the work of young and trendy craftspeople within the relaxed atmosphere of Seel streets Heebie Jeebies.
People can browse the vintage stalls inside or listen to live music and enjoy a barbeque in the courtyard on the first Saturday of each month.
With vintage fashion stalls, photography, handmade gifts and troves of vintage jewellery, it’s easy to spend an afternoon browsing in the relaxed environment.
Owner of new vintage shop, ‘Hope & Winkle’, Helen Hope, decided to set up the market when she left her London design job to come back to Liverpool and flex her creative muscles by making her own jewellery.
She said: “I just thought I’ll set up a little market and sell my stuff, because none of the other markets have the right vibe that I was looking for, not the vibe that I was used to in London. So I set this up... and then after enjoying it for so long, I just thought, ‘what am I scared of?’”
The gamble seems to have paid off, with so many other stalls now at the fete and an array of live music, the fair has gone from strength to strength with students and vintage lovers.
Helen said: “The students can just come in here, chill out and listen to the bands. They don’t have to shop, you can ditch your boyfriend outside while you go around all the little vintage stalls upstairs and it’s perfect for a lazy Saturday.”
