When final year fashion student, Danielle Morgan, graduates in July, she will be setting out to make her mark on the fashion world.
Having loved fashion since a young age, Danielle chose to study on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course in order to make her dreams of being a designer a reality.
Danielle says: “During my three years at JMU, my technical skills have really developed. I’m now able to create my own paper patterns to my designs and really bring them to life.
“My research and inspiration has also changed from not just looking at other people’s garments. to looking more at non-fashion related subjects in order to create a collection.”
Indeed, for her final collection, she has found inspiration from Gaudi,
focusing many of her designs on his natural themed work. As for her
style, Danielle says: “I feel I am mainly a women’s evening wear
designer as I’ve chosen to work with fabrics such as silks, also my
styles are pretty girlie.”
After graduating, Danielle is hoping to become a fashion buyer or
design for a high street store. Being a keen shopper, she has
already decided what she will be buying the high street this summer,
“I really like the playsuits that are out this season, not only the plain
tailored ones but the floral chiffon print as well. They really
complement people’s figures. I also love the use of corsages and
hair accessories.”
With the graduation ball just around the corner, Danielle has some advice for her fellow students looking for what to wear: “Well, I wouldn't go for prints. I'd pick simple classical styles and dress them up with loads glamorous accessories.”
Unfortunately, Danielle won’t have the time to design her own ball dress this year as she is currently putting the final touches to her collection, due to be shown as part of the Art and Design degree show.
The show will take place at the new Art and Design Academy from 23rd May - 29th May 2009. It will feature work from fashion and textiles students as well as those from fine art, interior design and architecture.
There will be a fashion catwalk on 22nd May to celebrate the opening of the show. For information about tickets, call 0151 904 1280.
