Family and friends of a Liverpool man who was killed almost two years ago are staging a night in memory of him. The tribute, called “Haro’s night!” will celebrate the life of Michael Harrison.
Mr. Harrison died in July 2007, after he was attacked by bike thieves on his way home from work. They ripped off a panel from a nearby fence and struck Michael across the head. He fell to the ground and was left to die as his bike was taken from underneath him. He died five days later in hospital, with his friends and family at his side.
21 year old Michael, known by those close to him as Haro, enjoyed travelling the world and loved music and street art. He would regularly travel and meet new people, and he leaves behind many friends from all over the world.
17 year old Jamie Aspinwall of Hereford Drive, Bootle, was sentenced to six years in a young offenders institute after admitting the “spontaneous and opportunistic” killing, meaning he will still be younger than Mr. Harrison when he is released.
Richard Kent, a friend of six years said: “Haro is remembered by us every day, and we do all we can to help his parents, and younger brother. There is always an amazing turn out and it just shows that no one will ever forget him. He did not deserve what happened to him. He was an amazing lad with everything to live for, and we will always remember him for that. Each night we’ve put on has had a great turn out, full of family and friends and people who didn’t even know Haro. Everyone is welcome, please come and show your support.”
The event, which is June 5th in the Lemon Lounge, Berry Street, will be the fourth night dedicated to Michael. There is also a facebook group dedicated to Michael called: “RIP Haro”, which is open to members of the public.
