Accents are a strange thing. Everyone and everything, from cows to ducks, allegedly have them and in the UK it’s said that you only need to travel about 25 miles from where you are to hear a different one.
But at LSS you don’t even need to travel that far for a whole bunch of regional accents. You’ve only to walk up and down the corridor to be transported from Liverpool to London, Yorkshire, Ireland and even as far afield as Mexico.
As a journalist ,an accent can be a big issue in your career. Although the BBC has moved on from its days of only allowing Received Pronunciation on its airwaves, people still believe that an accent can play a role in getting a job, particularly in broadcast journalism.
We speak to journalism students about their accents and how they feel about them.
