Double vision as Gerrard model is unveiled

A £150,000 waxwork of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was unveiled at Anfield by the world-famous Madame Tussauds this week.

Gerrard could not travel down to London for an unveiling so Tussauds came to Liverpool so the England international could meet his model, which took four months to create.

After spending five minutes examining the waxwork, Gerrard said: “It's an absolute thrill to have my very own figure”. He also joked that the creators had “missed a few spots”.

This is the first waxwork of a footballer for five years, since Wayne Rooney was immortalised in 2005, and was also one of the few times a model has been taken outside London.

The figure is in full Liverpool kit, which was donated by Gerrard, and will be moved to the museum in London on 14th February. It will be positioned alongside England team-mates Rooney and David Beckham as part of the Sports Zone.

Liz Edwards, PR Manager of Madame Tussauds, said: “We very rarely ‘unveil’ our figures outside of the attraction in London, so being in Liverpool at Anfield makes this a very special occasion.

“It is particularly appropriate that Steven joins the Madame Tussauds line up in World Cup year. His inclusion is in response to huge demand from the public and we know fans are going to enjoy getting up close to him in the run up to the competition in June.”
