Grammy-nominated Canadian producer Deadmau5 has announced he will perform live in Liverpool following huge demand for his O2 Academy Brixton shows in London. The mini-tour of the UK is set to hit the city on Thursday 6th May and will take place at Mountford Hall, Liverpool University.
Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”) a.k.a Joel Zimmerman is also set to perform in Glasgow and Hull following massive demand at his London tour. The progressive house/electro artist is one of the most in-demand producers in the world, following a string of successful ventures, including his latest album 'For Lack of a Better Name', which was released in 2009.
In October 2008 ,results of the Top 100 DJ poll were announced, placing the Canadian producer at number six, a five-place jump from the previous year, highlighting his growing influence in the house music scene. Having released two albums of his own, the first being his debut in 2008 'Random Album Title'. Zimmerman has also collaborated with several other high-profile DJs and producers, including Rob Swire of Pendulum.
The mini-tour comes as exciting news to many of his followers due to the growing popularity and infinite variety of his performances. Richard Harrison, a Physiotherapy student at Edge Hill University, said: “I bought tickets to go and see him in London in April, so when I heard he’s also coming to Liverpool I was made up. I’ll probably go and see him again as he’s that good.”
In 2009, Deamau5 was nominated for a Grammy in the category 'Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical' for his remix of the track 'The Longest Road' by Morgan Page. Having racked up more than 5m hits on MySpace, the popularity of Zimmerman has never been greater and his Radio 1 Essential Mix became one of the most popular ever when it was aired during the summer of 2009.
Liverpool Guild events manager Steven Dixon said: "The show was initially promoted by Cream, and the idea was put forward for different venues. Eventually Cream approached the Guild and the date was arranged. Everybody is extremely excited by the news and its certainly a date to put in your calendar."
With two of his three London shows already sold out it is clear to see that the brand name Zimmerman has created can certainly attract a crowd. His unusual on-stage performance of sporting a mouse mask and the unique sound he uses only adds to the overall music experience. With many awards already to his name, including 'Artiste of the Year' in Urb Magazine, Liverpool can be guaranteed a unique and unforgettable performance.
Open to both members of the public and students the performance is expected to reach a sell-out of 2,300 people at the Guild.
