Two Liverpool roads have been nominated for prizes in the Google Street View Awards.
Hope Street has been named on the shortlist for Best Foodie Street, while Mathew Street is up for Best Fashion Street.
The North-West have five streets in total across these categories, including Manchester’s Curry Mile, but missed out on a nod for Britain’s Most Picturesque Street in the inaugural awards.
The search-engine giants have employed a panel of judges including a plethora of restaurant critics, travel journalists, and fashion experts, including designer Jeff Banks and Glamour editor Jo Elvin.
The prizes, created ahead of Google’s network of ‘walkable’ cyber-streets being widened, aim to be given to the road with the highest quality and most diverse range of prices and variety in its discipline.
Mathew Street, nominated by The Mirror’s fashion editor Amber Morales, is largely in the running because of its boutique showcase Cavern Walks.
Justine Mills, owner of Cricket said: “Mathew Street has been at the cutting edge of fashion since the 1960s, from the Beatle’s walking to the Cavern Club in their Winklepicker Boots to the modern day footballer’s wives shopping at Cricket in their Christian Louboutin heels.
“We are delighted to be positioned on this enigmatic street and excited to be included on the shortlist.”
Hope Street contains as many as 12 independent eateries, including high end restaurants such as 60 Hope Street and London Carriage Works, as well holding its annual Feast Day.
Hope Street Hotel’s Creative Director Mary Colston said: “We are enormously proud that Hope Street has been nominated, but then we are enormously proud of our street and our neighbours on it.
“Hope Street has more culture, history and architectural icons in the five minutes it takes to walk from one cathedral to the other than most cities!”
Votes can be cast up until February 28 here, with the winner being announced in March.
