Liverpool based web design company, Its About Websites, have received a commission from John Moore’s University. They will be creating a series of films featuring graduates who have started their own company. The films will be shot in the style of The Apprentice as part of a new It's About Video project at the company.
Gavin Sherrat, one of the owners of IAW, said: “We’re shooting 10 case studies of former students who own their own business talking about pitfalls, what they enjoy about their business and the responsibilities as a business owner.”
This comes just after owners, Gavin Sherrat and Paul Court, were asked by Everton FC to create a fan based elements for their website. Gavin Sherrat said: “We’re doing some screensavers that kind of pull in match highlights. It’s got a mixture of still photos from the game then about 30 seconds of video highlights.”
IAW began in 2007, yet for a young company it has received massive recognition in Liverpool. Gavin Sherrat said: “We went for coffee with Nick Preston from the Chambers of Commerce, and he said I don’t know what you’ve done but you’ve created the strongest start-up brand in the city.”
Last year IAW were shortlisted for the Livercool Awards. They made fake news stories about themselves and other nominees, but in a comic way, which earned them recognition around the city. Gavin Sherrat said: “We’re not a stuffy shirt and tie company.”
Gavin and Paul met whilst working for Rippleffect, another Liverpool based web design company, where they found they could do most of the work they were currently doing for them on their own. Paul said: “Two years ago we were both fed up with the day job and freelancing a bit, passing each other bits of work and we decided to start a company.”
The company has seen a relatively quick rise to success after attracting several big clients. IAW have worked with award winning bar and restaurant chain, Residence, and have designed the website for the Mankey Monkey charity event currently going on Liverpool.
We asked Gavin and Paul for some advice on how to find success after graduation. Gavin said: “Take your time is the key. We’re building, hopefully, a successful company but you don’t get rich quick. There are lots of lows and it’s about learning to deal with those. Stay positive and believe in your ideas.”
