1) Youku
Well worth a scout if you are on the prowl for new episodes of your favourite American TV shows. Warning though – it is in Japanese so you have to feel your way through.
2) Google Scholar
A god-send for when essay deadlines start to pile up. A great place to search through books, online journals and articles for those hard to find references.
3) Bleacher Report
Any budding sports writer should get on this site. A massive community of people across the world all commenting and writing on loads of sports (plus it has ties with the Telegraph too).
4) TED
If you are in an inquisitive mood with ten minutes on your hands head to TED. Tons of great and very interesting short lectures about everything from science to music and entertainment to current affairs.
5) Student Beans
Free stuff for students. No better way of putting it. Two-for-ones, discounts and special offers galore. You’ll be horrified you’ve been living so long without it.
6) Meta Critic
Ever seen two reviews of for the same film/book/game/album that were completely contradictory? Well now you can see a stack of them, and the average of them all too, so you never need to look anywhere else for a review, ever.
7) 4od
I know it’s advertised pretty regularly on TV but if you haven’t explored the immense back catalogue of free classic TV you are seriously missing out.
8) IMDB
You know how excruciating it is when you spot a familiar face in a film or on TV but can’t place them, this is your one stop for mental relief. Every actor/film/TV programme around has cast lists and info for you to get lost in. Many a sleepless night has been saved with this one.
9) Money Saving Expert
Maybe not the most exciting subject, or at least until it turns into digits on an ATM. Tons of ways to work the advantages and offers available from banks, etc. if you’re willing to put in the work in, and of course some expert advice.
10) Freecycle
FREE STUFF. Now that I got your attention, this website is great. Another community based site, but here people give and take items in a very utopian fashion. Well worth a look as you may find something worth claiming.
